School Gardens

YamoChori, in collaboration with various schools in Aitoloakarnania, implemented the action "School Vegetable Gardens", which included the creation of vegetable gardens and herb gardens in the school yards.


The action aimed to actively involve children in the process of planning, creating and caring for a garden, thus strengthening their collaborative and organizational skills. In addition, participating in the cultivation of school gardens increased their interest in learning and promoted their relationship with the natural environment.


Activities


Getting to Know and Participatory Design: The children actively participated in the design and decision-making on the location, colors and plants that would be grown in the garden.


Planting Ornamental and Aromatic Plants: They planted plants in the garden and made soil cover.


Sign Making and Painting Flower Beds: They created and placed signs with the names of the plants, painted the flower beds and decorated the garden.


Learning and Maintenance: They learned about the life cycle of vegetables and were informed about the importance and function of composting.

Makrinia Primary School, Etoloakarnania


2nd Kindergarten, Neapolis, Agrinio


Benefits


Educational Benefits: Increased interest in learning, development of skills of cooperation, organization, responsibility, patience and perseverance.


Environmental Awareness: Connecting with nature and learning sustainable practices.


Social Cohesion: Strengthening the sense of belonging and creating bonds between students and the local community.


The action was funded by the European Solidarity Corps and the European Union, allowing the active participation of students and communities in the development and maintenance of sustainable school gardens.
