Angela

Ángela is from Spain and joined YamoChori through the European Solidarity Corps program. Her main motivation for coming was to understand the non-formal education perspective applied to permaculture design, while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Her experience at YamoChori went through many phases: the initial excitement, the gradual realization of what was happening and why she was there, and the process of living and coexisting with the group. Through accepting responsibilities, building resilience, sharing emotions and past experiences, and reaching emotional closure, she considers it a truly meaningful experience.

It was a personal challenge that she faced and overcame many times. Working as a youth worker in the school gardens helped her recognize her strengths and showed that she is capable of living in a community while respecting her own boundaries.

She is deeply grateful for everyday life at YamoChori: the training, the free days, the people who passed through, the friendships she formed, and the memories created together. During her stay, she improved her filmmaking skills and awareness while supporting social media activities. She also developed greater self-discipline, autonomy, and communication skills, especially in uncomfortable problem-solving situations with different people she encountered.

Ángela learned how permaculture functions in daily life and realized that she is capable of creating her own projects while contributing to others, making an ecological and nature-friendly impact on different aspects of the world.

What she appreciated most were the unexpected moments when people opened up or showed deep care and warmth, even after knowing each other only for a few days. She also gained a broader understanding of permaculture and became more aware of the beauty of biology and natural systems. Overall, this experience has been incredibly rich and valuable.
